THE MASSACRE AT THE GREEN CATHEDRAL: AS SAINT-ETIENNE TURNS SMCAEN INTO DUST
What we witnessed today was not a football match; it was a public execution conducted with surgical precision. AS Saint-Etienne arrived on the pitch with the hunger of a pack of wolves, while Smcaen seemed to have arrived with the collective defensive aptitude of a group of traffic cones. The nightmare began in the 17th minute with a penalty, and from that moment on, the floodgates didn't just open—they were ripped off their hinges. By the time the dust settled, the scoreboard displayed a humiliating 8-1 victory for the home side, leaving the visitors looking like they had just walked through a hurricane without an umbrella. ⚽
The statistics paint a brutal picture of this lopsided affair. AS Saint-Etienne unleashed a staggering 12 shots on target, acting as if they were participating in a training drill against a non-existent goalkeeper. Meanwhile, Smcaen spent most of their afternoon chasing shadows and collecting a solitary yellow card, a pathetic souvenir for their utter lack of resistance. Even when Smcaen managed a late consolation goal in the 81st minute, it felt less like a comeback and more like a pity gift from a side that had already spent the last hour playing with their food.
While the fans of AS Saint-Etienne celebrated a historic goal-fest, the traveling supporters of Smcaen were likely wishing they had stayed in bed. To concede eight goals while managing only four shots on target is a special kind of failure that will surely be studied in coaching clinics as a "how-to" guide on defensive collapse. It was a glorious, ruthless, and absolutely hilarious display of dominance that confirms one thing: today, the grass in the stadium was clearly greener on the side of AS Saint-Etienne. 🤡
